Burns night

Tonight, 25 January is Burns' night, honoring the birth of the great Scottish poet Robert Burns. Born in Alloway, Scotland, this son of a poor tenant farmer grew to be Scotland's answer to William Shakespeare and is today toasted throughout the world; he authored Auld Lang Syne and many other well known poems and lyrics. Next year will be the 250th anniversary of his birth.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne

For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
