Atlantic Rowing Record

A team of British and Irish rowers, captained by Leven Brown, who claims to be descended from Christopher Columbus, has broken the world record for crossing the Atlantic in a row boat. The 14 man crew rowed across the Atlantic in just 33 days, seven and a half hours; smashing the previous record by over two days.

Their rowing boat, named La Mondiale, is the same boat that a French crew used to set the previous record, although it has undergone extensive refurbishment. The previous record has stood for 16 years and withstood sixty previous record attempts.

Leven Brown can now claim to be the ultimate ocean rower because he also holds the record for rowing solo across the Atlantic.
