Charles Darwin Letters

It seems that the fun of adventure travel is nothing new. Charles Darwin apparently proclaimed that his 5-year voyage in the Beagle was a "magnificent scheme, which allowed him to spend time larking round the world".

The information is unearthed in his correspondence, now published online in the Darwin Correspondence Project.

During his lifetime, Darwin exchanged letters with nearly 2000 people from all walks of life. His correspondence provides an invaluable insight, not only into his social network and about the intellectual development of the man who introduced the Theory of Evolution to the world, but about Victorian science and society in general.
