World Paddleboarding Record

American, Wyatt Werneth, who is chief lifeguard in USA's Brevard County, plans to paddleboard up the entire east coast of Florida on an 18 foot paddleboard, from Miami Beach to Jacksonville Beach, in just 10 days. The first leg of the journey from Miami Beach to Cocoa Beach, a distance of approximately 200 miles, is planned to be completed non-stop, setting a World record for the longest continuous paddleboard journey.

Paddleboarders lay prone or kneel on their board, which are longer and more streamlined than surfboards and range from about 10 ft (3 m) to 18 ft (6m) in length, they then paddle with their hands. Races are over large distances and open water; two of the best-known paddleboarding races being the Catalina Classic and the Molokai-to-Oahu, both of which are around 32 miles.

Two other paddleboard events are the U.S. Paddleboard Championships, scheduled for July 7, 2007, and the Hennessey's International Paddleboard Championships on Maui which is scheduled for July 22, 2007.
Wyatt's record breaking attempt begins at sunrise on May 19, 2007.
