Virgin Earth Challenge

Sir Richard Branson and Al Gore have announced the Virgin Earth Challenge, a $25 million global science and technology prize to encourage a viable technology which will result in the removal of at least 1 billion tons of atmospheric carbon dioxide equivalent per year.

To qualify for the Virgin Earth Challenge prize an individual or group must demonstrate a commercially viable design which will result in the net removal of anthropogenic, atmospheric greenhouse gases each year for at least ten years without countervailing harmful effects. Furthermore, this removal must have long term effects and contribute materially to the stability of the Earth’s climate.

So get your thinking caps on, you must complete an entry form and register but you have until 8 February 2010 to submit your idea to the the Virgin Earth Challenge.

Postscript: someone has just suggested that we should drink more cola :-)
