International Canoe Federation

The modern sport of canoeing or paddling has a large and growing band of enthusiasts from around the world, it has an advantage in being an activity that can be enjoyed by young or old, male or female and also in being an activity that can take many, radically different, forms.

There are sea-kayakers, the extreme wild water fraternity, the two Olympic disciplines of flatwater racing and canoe slalom, and several other competition disciplines such as wild water racing, marathon racing, canoe polo, canoe sailing and even dragon boating, as well as the wide range of non-competitive canoe touring activities.

The sport is co-ordinated by the International Canoe Federation (ICF) and they provide an excellent calendar of international events. Some of the world championship events for 2006 are:

June 12, Wildwater WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS SENIORS, Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic

July 6, Slalom WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS JUNIORS, Solkan, Slovenia

August 2, Slalom WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS SENIORS, Prague, Czech Republic

August 10, Canoe Polo WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS SENIORS & UNDER 21, Amsterdam, Netherlands

August 17, Flatwater WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS SENIORS, Szeged, Hungary

September 23, Marathon WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS SENIORS & JUNIORS, Trémolat, Dordogne, France
