Updated 9 December 2006
Just six months to go now before the FIFA World Cup kicks off in Germany. From time to time, I will update this post with snippets of information that I think interesting and/or useful and which might not be easily found elsewhere. Yahoo is running The Official Site of FIFA World Cup Football (Soccer for our American friends) offering comprehensive information in English, German, French and Spanish.

There are 12 FIFA World Cup Venues throughout Germany.

1. Hamburg
2. Hanover
3. Berlin
4. Gelsenkirchen
5. Dortmund
6. Leipzig
7. Cologne
8. Frankfurt
9. Kaiserslautern
10. Nuremberg
11. Stuttgart
12. Munich

The opening match is to be held on 9 June 2006 in the FIFA World Cup Stadium, Munich; a new, purpose-built football stadium.

And the final match will be played 9 July 2006 at the famous Olympiastadion, Berlin; originally built between 1934-36 to house the Olympic Games in 1936, where American sprinter Jesse Owens won four gold medals; re-designed to stage the 2006 World Cup Final.

The full match schedule Match Schedule has been made available as a PDF document.
