World sailboat record nearly 60 knots

Well, this bit of news and accompanying video, hardly needs any words. The VESTAS Sailrocket 2 has blown the previous Outright world sailboat record out of the water. Paul Larsen averaged 59.23 knots (68 mph) over the 500 meter course in Africa's Walvis Bay, peaking at over 63 knots.

All beautifully captured on a GoPro 2.

That was Oktoberfest, now Christkindlmarkt

Photograph of Oktoberfest by Yee Wong
Munich's Oktoberfest opens next Saturday. Yes, Oktoberfest will run for the last two weeks of September, and as usual, there will be many foreign tourists arriving in Munich at the beginning of October, only to learn that the last weekend of Oktoberfest coincides with the first weekend of October. Still, that gives everyone plenty of time to book a guided tour of Oktoberfest next year. Oktoberfest will be held 22 September to 7 October 2012.

The closing of Oktoberfest will not mean that Munich sleeps, next up for party lovers will be Christkindlmarkt

Dublin, UNESCO City of Literature

Dublin, been named as UNESCOs fourth City of Literature, and to celebrate its new status, this year's St Patrick's Day parade used the short story, Brilliant, by Dublin author, Roddy Doyle, as the festival theme.

My web page What's happening in Dublin was named as one of the best St Patrick's Day pages on Squidoo.

Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2010

This year's Hampton Court Palace Flower Show opens next week, 6-11 July 2010. This is a great day out and many people rate it better than Chelsea because of the extra space and more informal atmosphere.

Hampton Court Palace is at East Molesey, Surrey, there are excellent road and rail connections, and you can even take a ferry from Kingston Upon Thames.

Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2010,  features six Shakespeare inspired gardens and a Tudor allotment filled with fruit and vegetables that Shakespeare would have eaten 450 years ago. Take a look at this excellent audio slideshow from BBC News.
